Intel Z970: CPU overclocking and fewer connectivity options than the Z990
The Z970 It will have features of a high-end motherboard, such as overclocking for CPU multiplieralthough it would have reduced I/O options such as those that the B960. Basically the Z970 will be the B960 with advanced overclocking optionswhile the Z990 will also have a multiplier for the CPU frequency.
The Intel platform will have up to 34 PCIe lanesdivided into 20 PCIe 5.0 and 14 4.0as well as 4 SATA ports. The chipset Z970 will also not have additional PCIe 5.0 lines as the Z990 will, and they will only be able to use those available on the CPU. Intel wants to replace a large number of motherboards with chipsets B860 with these Z970, while the B960 will continue to be available for cheaper equipment.
The complete specifications are not yet available, but it is almost time for Intel to have these processors available, of which it is expected that there will be a large number of boards with different options available.
