Google confirms that there will be Googlebooks with a detachable keyboard, although it has not yet set a date
Google will expand the familia Googlebook with detachable keyboard devices. The company mentioned this format during the presentation to dDevelopers of the Android Dev Summit 2026, along with the traditional laptops and convertibles that are already part of the range.
The announcement confirms that the platform will also reach computers that can be used as a tablet independent of the keyboard. Google has not yet announced a specific model, nor has it accompanied that reference with a sale date or price.
A screen that is separated from the keyboard
The first Googlebooks have focused on the portable format. The Acer Googlebook 14 introduced a convertible variant with a 360-degree hinge, which allows you to fold the keyboard towards the back and use the device in tablet mode.
A removable changes that construction– The keyboard can be removed and the screen retains the hardware necessary to function on its own. That difference affects the weight it supports when using it as a tablet and the way it is rested on a table when the keyboard is reconnected.
The Google reference fits with the leaks about a Lenovo device. The company already participates in the range with the Googlebook 15, but the detachable device that has appeared in previous information corresponds to a different design.
Lenovo appears in the leaks
The name Googlebook Duet m has emerged associated with that project. The leaked images show a tablet with a detachable keyboard and a rear stand to keep it tilted. They also reveal a light strip near the camera.
Information about the project includes other clues, such as the appearance of the name in the Bluetooth SIG database and accessory documentation attributed to the FCC. This background points to product development, although Lenovo has not yet officially presented the equipment.
The information on its components does not allow you to close a technical sheet either.. There has been talk of a 13-inch OLED screen and a MediaTek processorbut there are discrepancies about the specific chip. Until Lenovo releases its specifications, that data should be treated as unconfirmed information.
Google’s statement supports the arrival of the format to the Googlebook family. It does not confirm in itself that the leaked Lenovo will be the first to be sold or that it retains all the characteristics that have been attributed to it.
Android and desktop Chrome on the same computer
Googlebook OS It combines the technological base of Android with desktop functions from ChromeOS. Google describes a platform that allows you to use Chrome with extensions together with Android applications distributed through Google Play.
This combination explains part of the interest in the removable format.– The same device can use touch applications and tools designed for mouse and keyboard. The adaptation of each application to a large screen will continue to affect the experience, especially when going from a horizontal to a vertical position.
The connection with the phone is also part of the platform. Google includes functions to view mobile files and photos from your computer or use phone applications in a window using Cast My Apps. These functions require configuration and a mobile phone with Android 17 or later, according to the company’s documentation.
The system still has vertical limitations
The detachable format also requires adapting the interface to use as a tablet. The leak notes that full-screen apps can rotate to portrait, while the Googlebook OS home screen, recent apps view, and app drawer continue to work horizontally.
The difference is noticeable when switching from an application to the desktop with the device held vertically. The rotation of a specific application does not guarantee that the rest of the interface follows the orientation of the device.
Google has not detailed what software changes will come with the detachables. For now, it has confirmed its addition to the range, but the final models, their specifications and availability dates are still pending.
