A Gunman Contracts study ensures that the launch of Steam Frame is getting closer and closer
Valve continues without announcing an official release date for Steam Frameits next virtual reality viewer, but statements from one of the studios preparing content for the device suggest that that moment is getting closer. The developer behind Gunman Contracts, the VR shooter that was born as a Half-Life: Alyx modhas confirmed that it will launch its game alongside the debut of Steam Frame, and has added that the viewer date is “around the corner”although he clarifies that he cannot be the one to reveal it.
Confirmation comes in the form of a Q&A with ANB_Seth, the title’s developer. When asked directly if there is already a release date, the answer was clear in substance, although ambiguous in form: yes there is a date, but it is tied to the Steam Frame date, and only Valve can make it public.
Gunman Contracts will be released alongside Steam Frame
As ANB_Seth himself explains, he and 2080 Games, the game’s publisher, have decided to launch Gunman Contracts in coordination with the debut of Steam Frame. The developer says he feels confident that the date of the viewer “it’s just around the corner”although he insists that he cannot share public information that has not yet left Valve. At the moment, the game’s release date is summed up in a single sentence from its creator: “next to Steam Frame”.
2080 Games has separately confirmed that Gunman Contracts will be compatible with SteamVR headsets since its launchwhich expands its availability beyond Valve’s own hardware. The game’s listing on Steam still shows the status “Coming soon”, with ANB_Seth as the developer and 2080 Games as the publisher.
The community has already echoed the announcement. A post on the subreddit dedicated to Steam Frame shows a promotional image for Gunman Contracts – Stand Alone with the text “Launching Alongside Steam Frame 2026” and a QR code to add the game to the wishlist.
By stating that the date exists, but that “he can’t be the one” to make it public, the developer suggests that the schedule is already set at some point.
Valve still does not confirm a date: “this summer” is the only official thing
Valve, for its part, has not announced an exact date or sale price for Steam Frame.. The latest Steamworks update, released in June, continues to indicate that the viewer will arrive “this summer”the same launch window that the company manages for Steam Machine, its desktop console. Valve has also expanded its Verified program to include Steam Frame support before the hardware even hits the market, a move that suggests the company is laying the groundwork for launch.
What makes the difference in this case is that, for the first time, an external studio has publicly linked the schedule of its own game to that of Valve hardwaresomething that neither the company itself nor its usual partners had done until now with Steam Frame. This gesture adds indirect pressure on Valve to clear up the mystery before the end of the summer, a window that the company has set for itself.
Beyond the date, there is another confirmed fact: Gunman Contracts will work with SteamVR from day one, so it will not be limited to Valve hardware and will also be able to run on other headsets compatible with this standard, expanding its potential player base.
Neither Valve nor 2080 Games have confirmed a price for Steam Frame or Gunman Contracts, and there is no information on availability in Spain or the rest of Europe at the time of writing. Until Valve makes an official announcement, the only certainty is that both releases, the headset and the game, are linked to each other, and that the community will have to continue waiting to put the date on the calendar.
