HUAWEI’s new two-zone folding phone is now available, the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design. This phone has been launched in China with a renewed folding design, to which an external screen has been added. It also has privacy screen and its own Kirin 9050 Pro processor as previously rumored.

HUAWEI Mate XT 2 launches a new folding system

One of the most radical changes is the folding systemwhich now folds inwards. For this they have had to add an additional screen, which will show the information when the phone is closed. The screen has a size of 6.5 inches and has an LTPO OLED panel with Full HD+ resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 6,500 nits.

The internal screen has 10.2 inches when unfolded and offers a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The aspect ratio is 12.8:9 and a privacy filter has been added with a similar operation to the new Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. Additionally, this model is compatible with the 3rd generation M-Pen stylus.

Kirin 9050 Pro offers up to 42% more performance

Inside we find the new Kirin 9050 Pro chipwhich offers up to 42% higher performance compared to the previous Mate XT, according to HUAWEI’s own data. As expected, this new SoC also offers an improved GPU and NPU to offer greater AI and graphics options.

Along with this chip, the connectivity options are 5G, dual 4G and Wi-Fi 7 with bluetooth 6.0 LE. You can also obtain the location using GPS or make communications via satellite wherever coverage does not reach. It has NFC sensor for contactless operations and the charging port is USB Type C 3.1.

The Mate XT 2 incorporates three RYYB cameras and a periscopic telephoto lens

The design changes also include a camera module relocationwhich is now located in the central part. As for the cameras, the main sensor is 50 MP RYYB LOFIC with a sensor size of 1/1.28 inch. It also incorporates a 50 MP RYYB periscopic telephoto lens and a 3.5x optical zoom. It is completed with a 40 MP RYYB ultra wide angle and a third generation Red Mapple color sensor. For selfies, an 8 MP sensor has been added to the interior and exterior screen.

The hinge for this type of foldingand now includes a G-shaped one with IP58/IP59 certification. Basalt glass has been added to the exterior screen, which offers greater durability and resistance to falls and/or scratches. For biometric security, a fingerprint sensor on the side.

The HUAWEI Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design is offered in versions with up to 16GB RAM and 2TB storage. It will come in white, black and purple, with prices starting from the 19,999 RMB (about 2,565 euros) for the model with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, and which goes up to 29,999 RMB (about 3,845 euros) for the top model of 16 GB and 2 TB.
