Microsoft has patented a system to show ads in games during loading screens and other pauses

It seems that the in-game ads It will be the next source of income for these platforms. We already saw how EA had announced a system to add dynamic ads within the game itself, and now it is Microsoft that has registered a system to add advertising. Microsoft’s patent shows how the video game giant would add Ad breaks during loading screens and after end-of-screen boss battles.

Microsoft patents a system to show ads during game breaks

A request that will be integrated into both games for PC as on consolestaking advantage of the natural pauses in the games. The advertising would be inserted silently at key moments without activity in the game, such as a loading screen or at the end of a cinematic.

The patent has been named “Contextually Aware Management of Interactive Software Application Access”which includes an initial period without ads such as surpassing the first level or after a set time has passed. At the end of this period, a content management system will offer advertising when appropriate, taking advantage of the moments described above to play the advertisement(s). If you watch the video completely, it will earn you a credit, which will be used to pass subsequent advertisements.

Ads may appear after boss battles or during loading screens

At the moment this only corresponds to a patent, and it does not have to end up being carried out in Xbox titles. It may be related to the new subscription service Xbox Cloud Gaming offered for free in exchange for advertisingalthough in this one the ads start before starting to play. Microsoft believes that interrupting the game with this type of content can be detrimental to the user experience.

This request, the service Xbox Cloud Gaming with ads and the newly introduced EA Advertisingsuggests that the video game industry will end up inserting ads into the games themselves sooner rather than later. An option that users would like in exchange for something, such as reduce the cost of video games, subscriptions or to get additional content without paying for it.
