AceMagic’s new Kron Mini K5 combines Intel’s Wildcat Lake with 100W USB-C

AceMagic has presented the Kron Mini K5a new compact mini PC that stands out for integrating one of Intel’s most recent processors for laptops, the Core 5 320, known under the codename “Wildcat Lake”. The company thus adds a new model to its catalog of small format equipment, betting on a mobile platform to keep consumption and temperature under control in a reduced chassis.

The mini PC segment has experienced notable expansion in recent years, with Chinese manufacturers such as AceMagic, Beelink or GMKtec launching more and more models that combine laptop processors with tiny desktop chassis. The Kron Mini K5 fits precisely into that trend, offering a small-sized alternative for those looking for a multipurpose device without the dimensions of a conventional tower.

A “Wildcat Lake” processor with hybrid configuration

The heart of the Kron Mini K5 is the Intel Core 5 320, a mobile chip that organizes its cores in a Hybrid configuration of 2 high-performance cores (P-core) and 4 efficiency cores (LPE-core). The maximum frequency in turbo mode of performance cores reaches 4.60 GHzwhile the processor has 6 MB L3 cache to streamline access to the most used data.

AceMagic has configured the TDP of the chip at the maximum allowed, with a base power of 15 W and a turbo peak of 35 W. This decision is common in mini PCs based on mobile silicon, since the greater thermal and electrical margin available in a desktop chassis, compared to that of a laptop, allows us to squeeze a little more performance from the processor without compromising the stability of the system.

Memory, storage and connectivity

In the memory section, the Kron Mini K5 incorporates 16 GB of LPDDR5-6400 RAMa figure that should be enough for productivity, browsing and light multitasking tasks. For storage, AceMagic has opted for a M.2 SSD type Gen 3 x4 with 512 GB capacityan NVMe solution that offers significantly faster transfer speeds than a traditional SATA drive.

Regarding wireless connectivity, the equipment includes WiFi 6 (802.11ax) along with Bluetooth 5.2a combination that more than covers current connection needs, both for home networks and for wireless peripherals. For those who prefer a more stable wired connection, the Kron Mini K5 also adds a port 2.5GbE Etherneta speed that is increasingly common in this type of equipment and that doubles that of conventional Gigabit connections.

Video outputs and a generous array of USB ports

The video connectivity section includes an output HDMI 2.0a port DisplayPort 1.4 and a connector USB-C with DisplayPort 1.4 pass-throughwhich allows this last port to be used both for data and to output images to an additional monitor. This combination makes it possible to configure up to three different screens simultaneously connected to the device.

On the USB ports front, the Kron Mini K5 does not fall short: iIncludes four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A ports with 5 Gbps bandwidth each, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A ports at 10 Gbps, and one USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 port capable of reaching 20 Gbps. This last port fulfills a double function, since it also acts as a power input with capacity up to 100Walthough the team also retains a independent 2-pin power input for those who prefer to use the conventional charger.

The presence of a high-speed USB-C port capable of receiving power adds flexibility when integrating the Kron Mini K5 into more sophisticated desktop configurations. It allows, for example, to connect it to a docking station that also distributes USB-PD power to the USB ports connected in cascade, thus reducing the number of cables needed on the work table.

A device oriented towards multitasking and multi-screen use

With this combination of specifications, AceMagic positions the Kron Mini K5 as a versatile device, capable of moving with ease both in office tasks and in scenarios with several screens connected simultaneously. The choice of a processor from Intel’s “Wildcat Lake” family, still recent in the mini PC market, places this model among the first compact devices to adopt this platform.

The ultra-compact form factor, combined with fast NVMe storage and generous memory for the segment, makes the Kron Mini K5 an option to consider within Intel’s growing catalog of mini PCs based on mobile silicon, especially for those who value low power consumption and size discretion over the raw power of a conventional desktop computer with a desktop processor.

AceMagic has not yet confirmed the sales price of the Kron Mini K5 or its availability outside the Asian market, although the company maintains a constant pace of launches in this segment, so it would not be strange to see more commercial details in the coming weeks.
