The presentation of the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 has shown that manufacturers are implementing AI rescaling technologies, which we have already seen on PC, on mobile devices as well.
We saw it with the presentation of the new ARM CSS for Mobile 2 platform, with its Mali G2-Ultra NX GPUs with AI accelerators for these functions, and we see it now with Qualcomm, where its new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 They integrate matrix cores or “Matrix Cores” to support their own rescaling and frame generation technologies.

In the case of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Extreme, having these special cores makes it compatible with its technology Adreno Neural Fusiona combination of upscaling with AI frame generation.
Like all these systems, such as DLSS, FSR, etc., instead of having to render the frames at the final resolution, they do so at a much lower resolution to, using different techniques and AI filtering, rescale the image to a higher resolution.
This, which we have already seen hundreds of times on PC, is perhaps more relevant in the world of gaming on smartphones, since they are devices with more limited powers, and are also much more sensitive to temperatures and battery limitations.
According to Qualcomm itself, Adreno Neural Fusion allows you to cut graphics consumption by up to 40% maintaining visual quality. This is in addition to the 12% reduction in consumption that the GPU’s 18 MB of HPM memory allows (exclusive to the Extreme version as well) by avoiding the constant transfer of data to/from RAM.
It will be compatible with graphics engines such as Unreal Engine and Unity, with initial support planned for titles such as Diablo Immortal or War Thunder Mobile.
