Apple would move it to October in full reorganization of its professional range

The replacement of the Mac Studio no longer seems as close as expected. The latest information from Mark Gurman now places his arrival in October 2026several months after forecasts that pointed to a renewal before summer. The change is relevant because it affects the only professional desktop that Apple maintains in its catalog after the withdrawal of the Mac Pro.

Until now, the analyst’s own impression was that the shortage of stock in different configurations of the Mac Studio and Mac mini fit with a relatively imminent transition to the M5 series. In fact, just a few days ago we explained to you that the lack of Mac mini and Mac Studio units pointed to a transition to the M5 chip, also based on previous information from Gurman himself.

Now the scenario changes. According to this new information, Apple had internally managed a launch window around the middle of the year, but supply problems would have pushed the calendar several months. That cools expectations of an announcement before WWDC and suggests that the company is having more difficulties than expected to accommodate the renewal of one of its most strategically delicate teams.

Less stock and more pressure on the only professional desktop Mac

The current Mac Studio ships with M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips, a combination that already reflected a certain asymmetry within Apple Silicon. Added to this are long delivery times, out-of-stock variants and increasingly irregular availability in several markets. For weeks, this situation was interpreted as a sign of imminent relief. The novelty is that it can now also be read as a symptom of a supply chain that is more stressed than expected.

Gurman points to memory and storage problems that would be affecting the technology sector in general. In Apple’s case, that fits with a fairly visible image in its store. While many MacBook Air and MacBook Pro maintain reasonable availability, part of the desktop catalog drags waits of several weeks or it directly stops offering some configurations. The company seems to have prioritized laptops, probably due to volume and demand.

That detail matters especially in the Mac Studio, because its audience usually looks for versions with more RAM and more storage. If precisely those variants are the most affected by the stress on components, the impact is greater. In addition, demand linked to local artificial intelligence loads has reinforced the attractiveness of these compact machines, which adds extra pressure on inventory in an already delicate moment.

A more visible delay after the withdrawal of the Mac Pro

An important detail is that the Mac Studio no longer lives in the shadow of the Mac Pro. After the disappearance of the professional tower, Apple has simplified its strategy and made it clear that it prefers a closed, compact machine aligned with the logic of Apple Silicon. Now, the Mac Studio has come to occupy the space of the Mac Pro as the reference professional desktop, something that makes any delay weigh more within the catalog.

The contradiction with what was published a week ago does not necessarily invalidate the core of the problem. Most likely, Apple is preparing the transition to the M5, but the actual schedule has changed along the way. That is, scarcity may continue to respond at the end of the current generation, only the replacement would no longer be as close as it seemed. That leaves Apple in an awkward position: less stock from the outgoing range and still several months until the replacement.

For many power users, Mac Studio will still be sufficient even without an immediate revamp. But there are also buyers who were waiting for this new generation due to the chip jump, the possible improvement in unified memory and a better fit for AI loads and intensive production. If the launch goes to October, Apple will extend a period for months catalog sensation on pause just after you have reordered your entire professional desktop offering. For now, the most reasonable thing is to lower expectations.
