Microsoft Edge loses 3% of its users in desktop environments, but Chrome gains 8% share

The Microsoft Edge browser has seen a significant drop in market share in recent months, according to data from Statcounter. In September 2025, Edge reached a 10.37% participation in the desktop browser market, compared to the 13.64% it had in May of this same year, which represents an approximate loss of a quarter of its user base.

During the same period, Google Chrome not only maintained but strengthened its dominant position with a 73.81% share for September 2025. And, while Google continues to dominate the market share in browsers with an iron fist, other smaller competitors, also in desktop environments, showed slight decreases. For example, Safari It went from 7.91% in May 2025 to 5.69% in September 2025 (remember that it is only available on Macs). For its part, Firefox continues to bleed, going from 5.88% to 4.45% in the same period.

Internet, by Google

Statcounter indicates that, although Edge remains the second most used browser on desktopo, the trend of user loss shows important challenges for Microsoft in terms of retention and adoption compared to established competitors. The causes, as you can imagine, are unknown.

However, this flight of users from small browsers seems to be strengthening Chrome. In fact, this browser continues at a good pace towards 80% market sharewhich could be reached in a few months if the trend continues. These are figures that would give Google absolute power over the Internet and the Chromium project, if it does not already have it.
