Sony plans to delay its PlayStation 6 until 2028 or 2029 because of AI

The fever for AI has wreaked havoc on the global supply of RAM and other types of chips and components. Prices are skyrocketing and the situation is looking worse and worse due to lack of availability.

While the main companies dedicated to AI hardware make a splash and plan more and more data centers, each time with greater amounts of memory and power (despite the increase of certain boredom on the part of users), other companies suffer the consequences of this excessive fever.

The high price of RAM would delay the launch of the PlayStation 6 until 2028 or 2029, two years later than the new Xbox.

The world of consoles will not be saved, after all, they are still computers with their processors, graphics, memories and other components. According to Bloomberg, Sony is already proposing a delay in the launch of its next PlayStation 6. While the next-gen Xbox will arrive in 2027, Sony will be forced to delay its PS6 by one or even two years, going until the year 2028 or 2029.

The reason is none other than the unaffordable increase in the price of RAM that would make the console too high priced for consumers. We must not forget that memory is key at the system and graphics level. Additionally, a lack of memory chip supply would also limit the console’s production capabilities.

If this news is confirmed, and if Microsoft’s plans to launch the new Xbox in 2027 are not modified, Sony would compete with a clear disadvantage, arriving so late in the fight for next-generation consoles.
